My sister is planning to buy and learn how to play a violin, any advice?

My sister is planning to buy and learn how to play a violin, any advice?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'd just like to know some guidelines or things to know when it comes to buying a violin. Some information about learning how to play it and when and where to buy it. Especially here in the Philippines. Any advice? :) thanks :)My sister is planning to buy and learn how to play a violin, any advice?
Used instruments can be a very good choice for a beginner. One of the most important things with a violin is to be sure that it is the proper size for the person using it. A reputable shop will assist you by measuring the forearm and guiding you to instruments of the appropriate size. If your sister is young still, it is not a good idea to spend too much money, as the violin will need to be replaced with a larger instrument as she grows. If the forearm is exceptionally long, it is usually necessary to have an instrument custom made, which can be rather pricey. Regarding learning how to play one, check in your area for music teachers - you can sometimes connect with them through schools. If you cannot afford to pay for lessons, you can sometimes work out an arrangement with the teacher to do yardwork or housecleaning in exchange for the lessons. Good luck to you!

You probably will want to get a cheap second hand violin just to start out with this way you will not have wasted very much money if she decides to quit

this website http://www.violinlessonshq.com has lots of beginners lessons
Yeah

1. Rent a violin (In case she doesn't like it)

2. Get an instructor for a bit

3. When you buy it, don't put it in a hot place, cold place, or a wet place. (Damages the strings)
A violin is a cool instrument, I been playing it for 3 years :D

First you need to know what size to get your sister. If she is still growing i will recommend to rent one. Violin's come in different size so don't worry if you thing she is still too young to be able to grab one

Go to a music shop. There they will help you with any problem you have from finding the violin that fits her to showing her all the items that will help her maintane and handle her violin.

Theres the TUNER: helps you tune the sound of your strings

SPONGE: you put it under the violin so the edges of it wont hurt you, it also feels more comfortable

Also since she is just starting i would recommend her to rent a violin, because playing violin doesnt look that easy. You have to learn how to tone it, learn finger position, learn your notes (notes are like a language and you need to learn that lenguage to be able to play it) So if your sister just finds it boring or to hard, she can return the violin. If not she can move to buying one on the future

She needs to learn how to take care of it. Put it on a nice place not too cold or warm. the climate makes the strings stretch or shrink so she needs to tone it often. The bow (the big stick with horse hairs) don't touch the hairs. She will durty them, make them dark and ugly.

The rosin is what you put in your bow. Will help the bow slide through the strings, produce a better sound and prevent some rough sound that will make if it didn't had it.

To put it on the bow slide the bow from bottom to top, then top to bottom a several time.

If a string brakes go to a music store. There she can buy new strings (they will ask your violin size). If you ask them they will also put the string for her.

Hope that will help you, and I hope she will love her new violin
