Why cant you get income support ? I think you need to see your Citizens Advice Bureau to find out if you can claim any kind of benefit at all since you are a single parent. It may be that because your husband is still living in the house (I presume you are too) so I think selling the house is a good thing. If you have a joint mortgage then you are entitled to half so that you can start again.
Get some advice from the CAB but make sure they know what the appointment will be about.

If UK, ur best bet is CAB. Depends on lots of things like who's name the house is in etc.
And dont let the yanks push u about on Answers! They think they own the place LOL
don't know...where are you at in the world ??? if you're in the US, you can try legal aid, if you aren't, scroll down to the flag of the country you need and ask there.
advice shop should be one in your area, contact the council 1st and they should point you in the right direction..
