I have one semester left of mortuary education and was wondering if you had any advice? My biggest problem is what to say to the families of those who have lost a loved one. But any advice is great... thanks!Any advice on becomming a funeral director?
Dont become one :)Any advice on becomming a funeral director?
I work in a funeral home and the best thing you can do or say at such an awkward, hurtful time is...';I'm so sorry for your loss, I know you're hurting inside, I wish there was more I could do.'; Speak from your heart and if you've experienced a simular loss, briefly say that you ';really do understand, how they feel. NEVER say that if you really don't. Good Luck to you! If you're employed at the right funeral home, you will love your job and the families that you help.
if you read of a simple path from the bible maybe
I know this is a difficult time for you and your family...
but could you just sign here, and here, and oh yeah... one more time here.
Speak from your heart, they will come to you looking for some kind of comfort. Tell them you are sorry for their loss and that you will be there to ease their pain any way you can. Be sincere and you will do fine.
You should have learned that as part of your course.....
Just be yourself. I take it that you got in this field because you loved dealing with people and are sympathic to their problems and NOT because it is a family business and fell into your hands?......so just be you!!! Try to put yourself in their place if you had lost your gramma or best friend or loved one.....that always helps to put yourself where they are....and always be WARM and genuine!!! and CARE!!! people always can sense and know when one cares! best of luck to you!
wouldn't they teach you that at the mortuary education program, or whatever?
';i'm sorry to here about your loss...'; or you could watch six feet under and listen to see what they say
I could never have your job. It'd be so depressing.
Be sympathetic in a way that they don't think you're pitying them
Start taking the anti-depressant medications now
Get ready to deal with those unseen spirits soon..lol
