My wife and I live in Columbus, Ohio, and we are looking to move to a warm coastal city (ie; San Diego or Tampa). We are looking for any good tips on moving to another city and finding a job. (ie; What's a good way to find a place to live, should we worry about getting jobs first before moving, how do you find out what the costs of living are, how much money should we have save before the move)
Advice from anyone who has undertaken this challenge would be greatly appreciated.Any advice for moving and finding a job in another state?
First off you need to decide where you're going. There is a world of difference between San Diego and Tampa. The cost of living in San Diego is twice that of Columbus, Oh. Yet the cost of living in Tampa is a lot less than Columbus. The internet is a great source of information on
Homes, places to live and even jobs. The good thing is that with all the home on the market in Florida you should be able to find a great deal on a home. This will also bring rents down in the next year or two. You should have enough money saved to carry you for a couple months until you can find a job. To be safe and smart I would suggest 3 months savings.Any advice for moving and finding a job in another state?
Don't move or quit your jobs until you know what you are getting into. The chamber of commerce has all of the information that you will need to get started.
Go on line to the police department and you can see the percentages of different types of crime in that area.
Any city that is close to the water will be more expensive then a inland city.
The economy is bad right now so it may be sorta hard or bad.
